Tickle Me Emmett

We found Emmett's tickle spot last night. Laughing babies are the best. This is his newest thing. Here's a video to see Emmett's belly laugh.

The Many Moods of a 2 Month Old

Yesterday I had my first experience of a hysterical baby at the grocery store. Mike was at the church, his home away from home, last night and we were in dire need of food. So I decided to take off with Emmett and go shopping. I made sure he was fed and happy and when I left the house he was sleeping comfortably in his car seat. Well, as I'm browsing the isles of Wal Mart pretty soon he wakes up and starts to get a little fussy. I was in the baby isle anyway looking for a crib toy to get for him (his crib is a little boring and he's at that age where he is getting more interested in that stuff). So I pick one up that lights up and plays music, and place it in front of him and turn on the music. That kept him distracted for about....20 min. By the time he'd had enough my cart was full. So here I was, my baby was crying and I wasn't about to ditch the cart. So instead, I ditch my shopping list and head to the check out. Lets just say by the time all my items were checked Emmett was literally HYSTERICAL, like that quivering lip and voice, type of cry. The people in line were staring, more like in a "I feel for that mother" type of way and the checker lady was very sweet and went really fast for me and helped me load all the grocery's in the cart. Well by the time I'd gotten home, it took me about 3 minutes of holding Emmett to have him calmed down and happy again. Talk about moody.

Just gotta love him.

Bon Voyage!

Well, my parents are off! They flew out of SLC on Sunday on their way to Korea. My dad got a new job in Seoul that will keep them there for about 2 years. Luckily, they do get 2 trips a year to come back to the states for visits. Can't wait till July!

Saying goodbye..don't we just look so happy?! My mom was wearing 2 coats cause her bag was on the verge of being too heavy to take on her flight, so she wore them both. hahaa.

I think the only good thing (on my end) that has come of this is that Subaru you see in the picture is my ticket to freedom. I have a car again! Don't worry mom and dad, I promise I'll take good care of it while you're gone.

We love and miss you!

Parenthood Makes You Mental

As everyone knows, there's a little trick in getting your baby to calm down when he/she is crying. Its the "shhh"ing sound right? Well, Mike is pretty good at this little trick and almost always works like a charm on Emmett and calms him right down when he's crying. Well, I think sometimes when you do things consistently it tends to get engrained in your brain a little too much. Like last night for example, Mike and I had climbed into bed to go to sleep...Mike was asleep in about 2 seconds. I rolled over to adjust more comfortably and next thing you know Mike reaches over to my knee, rubs it, and goes "Shhhhhhhh". I busted up laughing. He couldn't remember a thing this morning.

Another thing that I am guilty of, is when Emmett wakes up in the middle of the night to eat, I tend to just bring him in bed with me to nurse. Well, sometimes I have to admit I am really tired and can't remember much. Well, there has been more than one occasion long after I have finished feeding, changing, and putting Emmett back in his crib (in the other room may I add) I wake up an hour or so later FREAKING out and waking up Mike in my sleepy state saying "Where's Emmett?! Where's Emmett!!?" as my arms are tearing apart the covers trying to find him, because I'm thinking I'd fallen asleep while feeding him and that he was somewhere buried in the covers.

Being a parent changes your way of thinking permanently. Your baby is constantly on your mind, and sometimes it makes you a little crazy...but in a good way.

Here's to Newness!

So much of my life has changed in the past year its unbelievable. Especially in the last 3 months. I went from being a YW pres, full time employee and pregnant wife... to... quitting my job, losing my calling and becoming a home-bound stay at home mom (I say home-bound because I've been car-less since I had Emmett). And even still, I wouldn't trade anything for a million bucks. I love my new life.

But to top it all off, my parents are both moving to Korea next week for 2 years!

We took a week off over New Years to help them pack their house and get ready. But before we worked we had to play a little...we went to Island Park to their cabin first to ring in the new year!

And I just have to say, these pictures almost didn't happen. Mike took the SD card to work and lost it. But miracles do occur and he found it in the parking lot on the ground a few days later. So here ya go:

We ate lots of good food

We did a lot of sitting around

We did a little snowmobiling

And then we did a LOT of packing

Well, I shouldn't say 'we', as Emmett refused to pick up a box, and I being his mother had to make sure he didn't distract daddy too much.

Goodbye Big Sky Country!

Seriously...who IS this kid?!

Okay, so I know my last post was titled "Who is this kid?" but I really should've waited for this one to call it that, because I am pretty dumbfounded at times as to where this child came from. Well, I know where he came from, heck I was huge with this child it was impossible not to know. But anyways, we went to Emmett's 2 month check up with the doctor today and lo and behold this child weighs a whopping 14 lbs and is 25 inches long! What does that mean you say? Well, that means he is in the 95th percentile for both weight AND height. His height must have come from Mike as he is 6'3". But thank you all for voting for me with his looks, Mike and I have to agree, we pulled out our baby pictures and Emmetts face resembles mine a lot more. With his bigness must have come some toughness too, as he took his immunizations like a champ. He cried for about 30 seconds afterwards. All he needed was a little cuddle and he was smiling again.

"Oh my head is sooo heavy"
