I Do NOT Heart Dentists

I hope my title doesn't offend anyone (Eric, Kylee/Lance) or anyone who may actually enjoy going to the dentist or who may have a dentist in their family. Its really nothing personal. But I just can't seem to enjoy seeing someone that brings me nothing but discomfort and oftentimes, bad news. I've always had very tender teeth. I'm the kind of person that has to brush and floss about a million times a day to avoid cavities...and even then, sometimes one sneaks in. My husband on the other hand could go days without brushing (although thankfully he doesn't) and wouldn't get even a smidgeon of decay.

Because of my tender teeth I'm always sure to do my regular twice-a-year checkups, because to me, my teeth are like treating cancer...if you don't do your regular check ups, the tumor will just grow and get worse.

Well, it all started this morning with a jaw ache. I thought I had just slept on my pillow wierd, but when the pain started to take over the whole left side of my ENTIRE face I knew something was wrong. And it was hard to get sympathy from my co-workers when I would say "I don't feel very good." and they would ask "Whats wrong?" and I would respond "My face hurts". Sounds kinda funny. Well, after about 6 hours the pain left my jaw and cheek and settled on a very specific spot...my tooth. As much as I don't like the dentist I was DYING to get in. Thankfully they had an opening for me within 1/2 hour of my phone call. The diagnosis: A ROOT CANAL. I knew it. I knew my day would eventually come when the worst of the worst would happen to my poor teeth. Turns out I had an old cavity from years ago that was filled, but was just a little too close to my nerve and caused it to infect and die. They temporarily filled the root with some medication to ease the pain until I can get in for the procedure. I walked away feeling gloomy yet relieved that the good dentist took the awful pain away. Oh and about 1/2 hour ago (about 8pm) my dentist was kind enough to call me at home just to see how I was feeling. Wow. What a nice guy. Maybe dentists aren't so bad after all.

Everyone hates the dentist till they're in the worst pain of their lives. Gimme 1 and 1/2 years and I'll do your root canals!

Oh you poor thing! I had a root canal a few years ago, so I totally feel your pain...the awful toothache/faceache, the procedure, the cost, everything! Not too fun, but hey, you'll never ever have to worry about that tooth hurting again!:)

I could have cried reading your post. I HATE dentists!!! Last time I went in I bawled the whole time. It was ridiculous.

Good luck with the procedure. Let us know how it goes.

I really hate dentists to. I have had a root canal done and really they are not that bad. It is just like getting a cavity filled. Although, that isn't very exciting either. Good Luck!!!

Don't worry, I don't think you offended Lance too much :) I hope your tooth feels better. I'm not a big fan of the dentist either, but I REALLY don't like the pain of a tooth ache so I'd take the dentist over that any day! Too bad your tooth couldn't have waited for another 4 month and then Lance could have done it for you!

I know this sounds bad, but I am so RELIEVED that I'm not the only one with horrible teeth/ sensitive teeth. No matter what I do. . . sigh. I've already had 3 of those stinking root canals. Yeah. I'm there for you. And of course I got a husband like yours, who just doesn't understand the tears I shed every time I hear the bad news the dentist has to offer.

So after I read your blog, I thought "Poor Lisa!!" Then the next day I drank some cold water and all of a sudden I was in extreme pain, like someone was yanking all of my teeth out at the same time...I called my mom and she said she's 99.9% sure I need a root canal (she's had a few before so she knows the "symptoms")...so...I need to get into the dentist and have it checked out :-(
